Fanfares
Trumpet fanfares are an effective way to
intoduce hymns on festive occasions. The trumpet(s) may
also play the tune (or provide a "descant" or obbligato) in selected verses.
The most famous example is Ralph Vaughan Williams' fanfare for
the "Old Hundredth", using "all available trumpets"!
